Shanghai History

For hundreds of years Macau dominated trade with China and Japan but in time was overtaken by Hong Kong and Shanghai and many Portuguese sought better careers there. When the Japanese occupied Shanghai in 1941 they moved to Macau and Hong Kong for safety and never returned to Shanghai.

In this website we have preserved some of the records of life in Shanghai before the war, such as the magazine Pela Patria.
