Marciano “Naneli” Baptista produced stunning scenery and documentation for the plays that were produced in Sham Shui Po Camp helped alleviate the tedium and hardship of slave labour and raised the morale of the inmates.  That he was able to create them is all the more remarkable considering the scarcity of resources in prison.  His fellow prisoners expressed their appreciation of his talent and dedication in the Hippodrome sketch at the end of this list of plays.  After the war, a grateful British government appointed him Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
